Хочется рассказать немного об одном из главных джазовых лейблов золотой эры джаза (50-60е) под названием Riverside. Лейбл был основан в 53-м году двумя энтузиастами джазового дела - Orrin Keepnews и Bill Grauer, а лейбл вошел в Bill Grauer Production Inc. Штаб фирмы находился в Нью-Йорке, поэтому записывали в основном музыкантов восточного побережья и центра США, В начале лейбл был задуман для переиздания раннего Чикагского материала, в основном с лейбла Paramount Records (Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Ma Rainey, James P Johnson), но уже в 54м выпустили свою первую модерджазовую запись Randy Weston. В 55м году ими был выкуплен у Prestige Records на Телониуса Монка и в течение следующих пяти лет он радовал их своими замечательными пластинками. К великому сожалению, Bill Grauer умер от сердечного приступа в конце 63го года и вскоре после его фирма была признана банкротом. Впоследствии записи попали к Fantasy Records и были переизданы в рамках Original Jazz Classics.
